Wine Making and Beer Brewing - Is It Legal to Do It in Your Own Home?

With the rise in popularity of microbreweries and local wineries, many beer and wine enthusiasts have been exploring the idea of making wine and beer at home. There are local shops that sell the equipment and ingredients necessary to brew beer and make wine, and it lets the beginner get a chance to try and make their own brew ready for consumption at home or as gifts to friends.

However with liquor laws being what they are and with the establishment of a legal drinking age, the question has to be raised - is it legal to make your own wine or brew your own beer at home?

The answer is a simple yes. You can make your own wine or beer at home using your own equipment and ingredients! It isn't the legality of home brewing that is in question however, it's what you do with it after you make it.

Upon completing your first, second, or twentieth batch of wine or beer, you are not allowed to sell it legally even to your friends or family as there is no tax paid to the government nor do you have a liquor license to sell. You are allowed to give it to friends or family, but you are not allowed to brew with the intention of sale.

So feel free to make your favorite beer or wine at home with the knowledge that you can make it at home for everyone to see. You just need to make sure you don't sell it after you have bottled it for consumption.
